IF YOU LIKE AND USE THIS PROGRAM, PLEASE SEND ME A POSTCARD !
A.M.P is a simple application that plays any MIDI file.
Just drag and drop a MIDI file on its icon or its window and the song is playing !
You can change instruments with popups and see notes flashing and pitch bends moving in real time on the 16 channels.
A.M.P. need a Mac LC + system 7 (or better) and an external MIDI device (or an AppleMIDIManager-to-QuickTime converter).
At startup in the first dialog you can choose between two methods for sending MIDI commands:
- through Apple MIDI Manager (in this case you need some extensions & drivers)
- directly to the MODEM or PRINTER port (serial RS232 interface). You don't need any software extension, just the hardware (RS232->MIDI).
Maybe the first method works on PowerMac, but the second one probably won't.
Another dialog allows you to translate MIDI instruments and channels:
- General MIDI -> General MIDI (in fact no translation)
- General MIDI -> “Yamaha PortaSound PSS780” (as my brother's electronic organ)
If you need other translations, please tell me.
Notes:
- A.M.P. works also in background.
- if you try to open a corrupted MIDI file, your system will problably crash and you will have to reboot. However the program knows if a file is not a MIDI file, so it shouldn't crash when it tries
